Welcome to the Town of Skanawan Website! The Town of Skanawan would like to wish it's sincere condolences to the family, friends, and wife of Tylor Hartwig. Tylor was valuable, wonderful, and kind person, resident of Skanawan and an amazing Supervisor. He will be missed!
The Town of Skanawan was established in April, 1911 and we've celebrated 104 years as a beautiful community in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. In the late 1800's surveyors were hired to map out Government Townships (different from town governments) in Northern Wisconsin for the purpose of surveying and mapping this new territory. Each Township was to be a six mile radius containing 36 sections of one mile each. And, that's what you will find in our Lincoln County Plat Book today. And, did you know that the word "skanawan" means "snow melting"? Early in the history of becoming towns here in Lincoln County two towns were named "Scanawan" and "Skanawan" but they both decided to change to new names, leaving "Skanawan" to be named as our Town. ------------------------------ TOWN BOARD MEETINGS are held the second Monday of each month, at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise posted on the bulletin boards located at the Town Hall, Clover Club and Oak Hill Cemetery, as well as this website.
